Veganism is the daily practice of the ideology according to which it is wrong to exploit sentient beings. Veganism prefigures a more peaceful society, based on a conception of justice extended to all individuals endowed with sentience. Through their ordinary gestures as well as their more striking actions, vegans struggle against the carnist hegemony: they transgress the existing cultural norms, “normalize” an alternative lifestyle and prepare for the institutional changes that justice requires. Veganism is constitutive of the social and political movement that aims at animal liberation.
