Lori Gruen

Entangled empathy moves beyond the over simplified form of empathy that tends to ignore or reproduce racialized, gendered, and species based biases and helps us critically examine the ways that we are co-constituted by the various relationships we are already in.  These relationships shape our understandings of ourselves and others, as well as generate particular responsibilities to improve our relationships. Gruen will discuss the ways that entangled empathy can move us to do better in our relationships with different others, particularly non-human others.
