Most people are outraged over animal abuse, yet paradoxically, Canada has some of the worst animal protection laws in the western world. Every day, animals endure horrific suffering for the sake of food, fashion, experiments, and entertainment. And tragically, most of this cruelty is not considered illegal.
Canadians are already compassionate, but our laws need to catch up. Awareness of animal suffering is reaching an all-time high, and animal rights lawyers in Canada are helping to translate compassion into better laws. By making animal law court cases and legislation highly visible, these issues have becoming part of the national discussion. It’s no longer possible for our legal and political institutions to ignore animals and their suffering. This talk will explore how each of us can play a role in improving the laws protecting animals in Canada.
